How is a Squame product created? Phase 3: Field testing
PHASE 3: Field testing
We were finally able to test the first prototype of the travel sweater. It was thrilling to hold it in our hands; it truly represented the work of all of us (and you). If you missed the story of how the idea and design of the garment came about, you can read it here .
The development of the jersey began immediately after the Veneto Gravel, during which we realized the need to design a jersey that would be the perfect travel companion during bikepacking rides.

After the ideation and design phase, all that remained was to test it on a bike, hoping to have achieved the intended goals. Based on the feedback gathered from all of you, the jersey needed to be, above all, lightweight and breathable, dry quickly so it could be washed in the evening, comfortable even after many hours in the saddle, and have large pockets to hold essentials during the ride.
What better place to test the Tuscany Trail? I set out with the new jersey in my bag, already appreciating and confirming one of the advantages I'd identified while researching the garment: its ease of transport. The lightweight, minimalist construction allows the garment to be folded up into a very small package.
I wore the jersey over the Natrix Jersey, even on its own, directly against my skin. I stressed it out in every way I could think of, even washing it in a fountain along the route to remove the dust from the Tuscan dirt roads, and letting it dry in the sun while we stopped for lunch.
The quick-drying fabric got full marks, all it needed was a little sun and light wind and it was ready for use again.

The taped seams and soft fit didn't bother me during the hours spent in the saddle, and taking advantage of the quick drying properties, I washed the jersey in the evening and then lent it to a travel companion the following day so he could also evaluate the benefits of the product.

We really liked it, we know that perfection does not exist, so we are continuing to use it, noting down every little note and observation that emerges during long-term testing.
We can't wait for you to try it too! The Agama Jersey will be available next spring, ready to embark on new journeys and experiences with you!
